Public affairs analyst and coalition leader, Ene Ogbole, has shed light on why the North-Central region threw its support behind President Bola Tinubu over two recent political decisions — the extension of tenure for Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, and the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Ogbole said the moves signaled a strategic push to address pressing issues in the region, including unemployment, poor education, insecurity, drug abuse, kidnapping, and political thuggery.
She also urged governors in the North-Central to make responsible use of increased federal allocations, ensuring the benefits reach the poor and vulnerable.
“It is heartening to see that, despite the severe hardship and insecurity our region is facing, the rise in national revenue offers a rare opportunity for government at all levels to respond decisively to the socio-economic and security needs of the North-Central and beyond,” she said.
Ogbole stressed that patriotism should not be about “seeking power at all costs,” but about working with the government — regardless of political differences — to deliver the dividends of democracy.
Expressing gratitude to President Tinubu, she described Yilwatda’s appointment as a “step in the right direction,” expressing confidence that the young professor would inject fresh, contemporary ideas to strengthen the APC and improve governance.
She also praised the decision to extend Adeniyi’s tenure, calling it recognition of the NCS’s “unprecedented achievements in revenue generation, sweeping reforms, and world-class operational standards” under his leadership.
