The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked off its campaign ahead of the August 16 by-election in Edo State, pledging to connect with every community across the five local government areas of the Edo Central Senatorial District. The by-election will also be held in Ovia Federal Constituency.
The campaign launch took place in Uromi, the administrative center of Esan North-East Local Government Area. Speaking at the event, former PDP governorship candidate Asue Ighodalo called on residents to support the party’s senatorial hopeful, Prince Joe Okojie, arguing that Uromi deserves the opportunity to produce the next senator.

Ighodalo expressed concern over Edo Central’s absence from the Senate since 2023, stressing that the district needs capable and impactful leadership.
“Esan people are known for their intellect and capacity,” he said. “We cannot allow our region to be perceived as a place where education is undervalued. The moment has come to elect the most qualified voice to represent us. If anyone offers you money, take it—but when you cast your vote, choose what is right.”
He urged voters to learn from past errors and to stand by what they know will serve the best interests of the Esan people.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the PDP Campaign Council, Hon. Joe Edionwe, cautioned that Esanland would risk stagnation if the opposition were to win.
For his part, Prince Okojie voiced optimism about his chances at the polls, promising to deliver strong and effective representation for the people if elected.
