APC Support Group Challenges Dissolution of Tinubu Campaign Teams in Ondo
The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), a support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed opposition to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s recent decision to dissolve all independent campaign organizations backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
While the group commended the governor’s intent to foster party unity ahead of upcoming elections, it emphasized the importance of acknowledging the role played by diverse support structures during election campaigns.
In a statement issued by Ojo Oyewamide, Director of Media for GMT’s Ondo State chapter, the group pointed out that numerous APC-aligned support organizations actively contributed to Governor Aiyedatiwa’s emergence during the buildup to the 2024 governorship race.
According to GMT, dismantling these support platforms could undermine the grassroots strength that helped secure past electoral successes.

inubu Support Group Rejects Plan to Merge with Party-Led Structure in Ondo
The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) has dismissed calls for its integration into a unified, party-led platform in Ondo State, following Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s directive that all APC-aligned support groups backing President Bola Tinubu must operate directly under the party’s leadership.
Responding to the development, GMT’s Director of Media in Ondo State, Ojo Oyewamide, urged members to ignore any attempt to collapse the group’s structure, noting that GMT is a national organization with an established presence across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“We are aware of efforts to misrepresent the outcome of the recent APC caucus meeting,” Oyewamide said. “Some are pushing the narrative that all support groups must merge into a single framework under the party’s control, but that was never the consensus.”
He emphasized that independent support groups have historically played vital roles in the APC’s electoral victories. Citing past examples, Oyewamide noted how several grassroots organizations—including LACO-FS, O Datiwa Group, Lucky Disciples, Partners with Lucky, and O Datiwa Ladies—worked in collaboration with the party to secure an 18–0 victory in the last governorship election.
He also recalled that under the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, dynamic groups such as Aketi Mandate Group, Team Aketi, Ajapada, Ibi Giga Ambassadors, and Ibi Giga Initiatives made significant contributions to the party’s success.
Oyewamide reaffirmed GMT’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election efforts, while maintaining its independent operational structure.
