The Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHDA), in partnership with the State Ministry of Health, has launched the first phase of a wide-reaching health campaign focused on improving maternal and child health. The initiative includes the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week (MNCHW), HPV vaccination rollout, and the Safe Motherhood Campaign.
This comprehensive effort aims to strengthen health outcomes for women and children by providing essential services such as maternal and newborn care, immunizations, and health education. Special attention is being given to children under five and expectant mothers across the state.
The campaign was officially flagged off at the Government House in Lokoja by the Governor’s wife, Mrs. Sefinat Usman Ododo, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade.
During the event, key interventions were carried out, including the distribution of vitamin A supplements to children aged 6 to 59 months, deworming tablets, and Safe Motherhood packages for mothers.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Ayoade highlighted the state’s commitment to free and accessible maternal healthcare. “In Kogi State, pregnant women receive antenatal and delivery services at no cost. Health insurance also covers children up to five years old. There’s no reason not to seek care when it’s free,” she emphasized.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, reiterated the administration’s focus on reducing maternal mortality through access to quality healthcare for all.
In his welcome address, Dr. Mu’azu Omeiza Musa, Executive Director of the KSPHDA, acknowledged the unwavering support from the Governor and First Lady. He also commended development partners, civil society groups, and stakeholders for their ongoing contributions to strengthening health services in the state.
