The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has said that Nigerians are eagerly waiting for the party to resolve its internal issues ahead of its forthcoming national convention.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday about preparations for the event, scheduled for November 15–16, Ologunagba noted that the widespread interest in the convention reflects the public’s confidence and belief in the PDP.
“Nigerians are eager to know what the PDP is doing to put itself together as a party because they see the party’s vibrancy as the only way to guarantee the sustenance of democracy in the country,” he said.
He described the upcoming national elective convention as critical to the survival of democracy, adding that Nigerians still associate the PDP era with economic growth and political stability.
“We had 16 years of unbroken governance by the PDP. Nigerians believe that to be the glorious era of development and hope in this country. Under PDP rule, our debts were paid, GDP growth was in double digits, inflation was contained, and policies invested in human capital development. By 2015, Nigeria had a $600 billion economy and was the number one destination for foreign investment in Africa,” he stated.

Ologunagba explained that party members are actively involved in 15 broad-based sub-committees set up to ensure an inclusive and successful convention.
Addressing speculation that one of the party’s governors might soon defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he stressed that the PDP is bigger than any individual and such a move would not affect the convention.
He also confirmed that the state congress in Edo was properly conducted on September 27, with an appeal panel established to address any concerns.
“Perhaps the purported congress was just a public show to justify the paymaster of those behind the illegality,” he added.
