Atiku Abubakar, a key figure in the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), has indicated that he is willing to step aside in favor of a younger, vibrant, and widely acceptable presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

The former Vice President revealed this during an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, emphasizing that his interest in the 2027 race is not driven by personal ambition, but by the desire to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.

Atiku urged younger Nigerians to actively participate in politics and pledged his full support to any qualified youth who emerges as the party’s candidate. He denied claims that he is desperate for the presidency, insisting that his focus remains on rescuing the nation from those he believes have mismanaged it.

“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku stated.
