2027: Atiku Grabs ADC – Kachikwu

Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of orchestrating a strategic takeover of the party in preparation for a 2027 presidential run.

Kachikwu’s remarks follow the recent announcement of a coalition involving prominent opposition figures: Atiku Abubakar; Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate; Nasir el-Rufai, former Kaduna State governor; and Rotimi Amaechi, ex-minister of transportation. The group had declared the ADC as their political platform for the 2027 polls.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, Kachikwu alleged that Atiku and his allies were using deceptive tactics to influence both Obi and the ADC leadership, pushing Obi toward accepting a vice-presidential slot under Atiku. He claimed loyalists of the former vice president had already been installed in key positions across the ADC’s national structure to ensure control of the party.

Despite Atiku’s public expressions of solidarity with the South, Kachikwu insisted he does not truly believe the presidency should go to a southerner.

“I have consistently cautioned that a network of mostly retired political heavyweights is executing a calculated plan to capture the ADC for Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 ambition,” Kachikwu said. “Peter Obi and other hopefuls in this so-called coalition of political veterans are being misled, while Atiku’s operatives quietly secure influence over the party from the ground up.”
